Shines

Shines craft songs that pay homage to the great guitar pop bands of the past, but add the modern, DIY spirit of bedroom pop and a sharper, post-punk energy to their sound. With influences ranging from The Cure to Castlebeat, imaginative lyrics and hooks aplenty, Shines are poised to storm the UK music scene through 2025 and beyond.

Shines began as a throwaway collaboration between two songwriters who had almost given up on breaking into the industry and were simply making art for art’s sake. Yet within a few months, the project started by Rob Cross (guitar) and Richie Dutton (vocals) had grown such legs that it could not be contained – suddenly, there existed a bounty of material that demanded to be heard. After months of trying to find a rhythm section, Cross and Dutton recruited Chris Day (drums) and Marc Poole (bass) in 2023 to complete the band, and Shines’ debut album How It Ends was released in 2024.

Following a string of singles that won praise and support from BBC Introducing and Radio X, plus a growing live reputation across the North of England, the Cleethorpes quartet were gathering momentum. Four musicians who had spent years in the creative wilderness suddenly found themselves revitalised, spurred on by the resurgence of British indie music happening across the country.
